A Flag Football Devotional
Flag football has exploded partly because of its connection to the NFL. People watch professional football on Sunday, get inspired, and then actually get to play a version of that same game themselves. It's not just passive entertainment – it's something they can participate in. The NFL isn't just something you watch; it's something you can do.
This participatory aspect creates community. People gather to play flag football, they form leagues, they talk strategy, they relive great plays. The game becomes a shared language and a reason to connect. What starts as playing catch turns into genuine friendships, because you're doing something together rather than just consuming entertainment side by side.
The growth of flag football shows something important: people are hungry for actual participation, not just observation. They want to be in the game, not just watch it. They want to contribute, not just consume.
Hebrews 10:24-25 - "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
Too many Christians treat faith like watching the NFL – they show up, observe what the professionals do, maybe cheer occasionally, and then go home. They're spectators at church services rather than participants in the mission of God.
But following Jesus was never meant to be a spectator sport. You're not supposed to just watch the pastor pray – you're supposed to pray. You're not supposed to just observe others serving – you're supposed to serve. You're not supposed to just listen to teaching about loving people – you're supposed to actually love people.
The Christian life is flag football, not the NFL. Everyone's on the field, everyone has a role, everyone's playing. Get off the sidelines.
Today's Thought: Faith is participatory, not spectatorial. Stop watching and start playing.
