Seven Seconds to Snap
A Flag Football Devotional
In flag football, the offensive team has seven seconds to snap the ball after the referee marks it ready. Seven seconds. If you don't snap it in time, you lose five yards. This keeps the game moving fast – no huddling for minutes, no elaborate planning between plays. You have to think quickly, communicate efficiently, and execute.
This rule creates an entirely different pace than tackle football. There's no time for overthinking or getting paralyzed by options. You call a play, line up, and go. The speed forces decisiveness. You can't afford to second-guess yourself or wait for the perfect moment. Good enough, executed quickly, beats perfect that never happens.
This fast pace is part of what makes flag football so energizing. You're constantly moving, constantly engaged, constantly making decisions. There's no standing around. The game demands your full attention and quick thinking.

Analysis paralysis kills more dreams than wrong decisions ever could. We wait for perfect timing, perfect circumstances, perfect clarity – and opportunities pass us by while we're still deliberating. Sometimes you just need to snap the ball and run the play.
Following Jesus requires faith, which means acting even when you don't have all the answers figured out. You sense God calling you to start that ministry, have that conversation, make that change – but you're waiting for more clarity, more resources, more confidence. Meanwhile, the seven seconds are ticking.
Yes, be wise. Yes, pray and seek counsel. But at some point, you have to snap the ball. Move with what you know, trust God with what you don't, and see what happens. Indecision is still a decision – it's just the decision to do nothing.
