Pictionary: Sharing Your Vision So Others Can Understand

In Pictionary, one person has to draw something while others guess. The challenge is: how do you communicate an idea that's in your head visually? How do you draw something that's clear enough that others understand? The person drawing has to think about what matters most, what the essential elements are, and how to communicate them simply.

Here's what makes good Pictionary: you can't include everything. You can't draw a perfect replica. You draw the essential elements clearly. You exaggerate what matters. You leave out what's not necessary. And your teammates, seeing your drawing, understand what you mean because you communicated the essence.

Spiritually, this is discipleship and witness.

You have a vision of Jesus. You understand who He is, what His kingdom is like, what following Him means. But other people can't see inside your head. You have to communicate it. You have to draw the picture clearly enough that they understand.

This requires clarity. It requires focusing on essentials. It requires not overcomplicating. Many Christians overcomplicate the gospel. They include too many theological details. They draw with too many lines. But effective witness is clear. It's essential. It's understandable.

2 Timothy 2:2 says: "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others."

Entrust. Communicate. Help others understand.

Matthew 28:19-20 says: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Make disciples. Teach. Communicate your vision.

2 Corinthians 5:20 says: "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."

Ambassador. Draw the picture clearly. Communicate.

1 Peter 3:15 says: "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."

Give an answer. Communicate simply and clearly.

Proverbs 29:18 says: "Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom's instruction."

Vision. Communicate it. Help others see it.

Tomorrow's Practice: This week, practice communicating your faith vision clearly and simply – like drawing in Pictionary. Share with someone what Jesus means to you. Don't overcomplicate it. Use simple language. Focus on essentials. Draw the picture clearly enough that they understand what matters to you about following Jesus.
