ABOUT US

G1 Outdoors is a Christian Nonprofit Organization that helps churches and individuals launch adventure sports ministries designed to attract and attach people to Jesus and His Church.
Founded in 2019, it is the long time vision of Adventure Sports Pastor Greg Weisman, who, as a pastor of Bayside Church in Northern California, launched Bayside Adventure Sports back in 1998. That ministry was organically launched because there were a group of men who wanted help launching some sort of a dirt bike riding club or ministry at Bayside. That then led to mountain biking, camping and more. With a new group of volunteers passionate about this, they launched the Extreme Sports Ministry (now Bayside Adventure Sports - BAS).
BAS grew and grew while Greg worked full time as the Middle School Pastor until the need arose to protect Bayside Church from potential liability issues. They incorporated as a California tax exempt Non-Profit in 2003 and continued to grow through Greg’s seasons as Small Groups Pastor (2001-2005) and Men’s Pastor (2007-2014). By 2014, both the Men’s Ministry and BAS had grown so large that Greg could not continue to run both, so with the church leadership’s approval and wisdom, Greg moved into the full time position as Adventure Sports Pastor.
Bayside Adventure Sports now hosts over 350 events per year in 20+ sports from beginner to advanced levels for adults, families, and kids. From educational seminars and small groups, day-long mountain bike rides, weekend camping trips, to multi-week epic adventures. BAS is run by a large team of volunteers and an administrative contractor, headed by Greg Weisman. For years other churches have been hearing about this ministry and asking for information on how it functions, so the leadership team began putting together the pieces to not only coach other churches but a whole system to enable them to connect with one another and pull off epic adventures of their own.
There are six parts to the system:
1. The models: Bayside Adventure Sports is a great model for Mega Churches; Bend Christian Fellowship (Bend, OR) is a great model for smaller churches; NewLife Church (Seattle, WA) is in between.
2. The Network: G1 Outdoors is being developed to connect churches and ministries together through a custom application that will enable all member churches into the database and the powerful resources. Through this system, rock climbers or fishermen around the country can be notified of special opportunities, discounts from national sponsors, or Christian discipleship tools designed for them.
3. The Coaching: G1 Outdoors is also the coaching platform as operation manuals, adventure devotionals, coaching tips, planning tips, and all intellectual property developed by the team will be available through the password protected website and software application. Consultants will also be available for phone, email, Zoom Calls, or onsite consulting.
4. The ASM Conference: The annual Adventure Sports Ministry Conference is designed for both connection building and coaching. From Thursday afternoon to Friday night there will be general sessions and breakouts designed for churches of all sizes and at all stages to be equipped for growth to the next level. Saturday and Sunday are designed to connect in small groups out on actual local adventures with leaders from current Adventure Ministries. This is hands on learning as groups live out the motto of G1 Outdoors, “God Created the Earth…ride it climb it catch it explore it protect it.” Eventually, as more chapters launch around the country, there will be regional conferences hosted by the leaders of those ministries.
5. Adventure Ministries Leadership Retreat: As churches develop their ministries and key leaders become known, they will be invited along with other key leaders from other adventure ministry type like SROM, Christian Camp Wilderness ministries, etc. This Retreat will be designed to foster brainstorming and sharpening of adventure ministry ideas for the country. Eventually we hope to hosts these around the country at retreat centers in locations like Lake Tahoe, the Colorado Rockies, and ski resort towns like Mammoth, etc. It should be a spiritual experience as well as offer great outdoor recreation on top of the networking and agenda work.
6. Epic Adventures through G1 Adventure Tours (G1AT): Greg Weisman and the team began taking their adventures to the next level with the first climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2010. Since then there have been four trips to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, a trip to Nepal to hike the Annapurna Circuit, SCUBA trips to Haiti and Cozumel, ski trips to Utah, white water rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, and coming in 2021, the brand new and unique Adventure Israel. Members of G1 Outdoors have access to all G1AT Trips and have the option of hosting their own, with the assistance and training of G1AT staff.
